| Vedic lagna (Lahiri) | Simha (Leo)at the recorded 8:30 AM |
Frida Kahlo's zodiac sign is Cancer, and at the 8:30 AM in her birth record the Moon was in Taurus and Leo was rising. Cancer held the Sun all day; the other two sat late in their signs, with Virgo rising from 8:58 AM and the Moon in Gemini from 9:04 AM.
That hour is solid but not exact. Two scholars describe the register entry and no rival time circulates, so Leo rising and the Taurus Moon stand, though Gannit Ankori's account says “about” and both signs change within the hour.

Two stations and an eclipse within five days of the birth
Against simulated 1900s births, Saturn ranks first, all but motionless at 27°26′ Pisces and three days or less from turning retrograde (about one chart in 14). Mercury is second and third: no major aspect ties it to the other nine planets (about one chart in 19), and it was slowing toward its own station, within five days (about one chart in 7).
Fourth is Jupiter, combust beside the Sun (about one chart in 20); fifth, Mars retrograde (about one chart in 10); sixth, the annular solar eclipse of July 10, 1907 (births within a week of any eclipse: about one chart in 6). The Moon exalted in Taurus (about one chart in 12) and Mars out of bounds (about one chart in 6) close the list.
Six of the eight hold at any hour; Mercury's isolation ends at 10:36 AM and the Moon's exaltation at 9:04 AM.
Register entry 277, and the 1910 birthday Kahlo preferred
Kahlo's hour rests on entry no. 277 in the Coyoacán civil register, a birth record known through two descriptions: Gannit Ankori (2002) gives about 8:30 AM, and Hayden Herrera (1991) cites the birth certificate for eight-thirty in the morning. Herrera's 1983 biography and books by Robin Richmond and Hedda Garza repeat the hour; no source offers another.
Kahlo's later date, July 7, 1910, was her own revision. Per Martha Zamora, the register places the birth at her maternal grandmother's house near the Casa Azul, too close to matter for the chart.
Mexico kept no standard time before 1922, so the hour is Coyoacán mean time, UTC−6:36:39. A birth more than 34 minutes late would change the Moon, which turned to Gemini that morning, and the rising sign. Houses are touchier: Venus needs a birth from 8:29:56 AM to sit in the 10th house, Pluto one from 8:27:23 AM.

|---|---|
| How sure the time is | From a birth record: 8:30 AM |
| Rodden rating (our assessment) | AA: from a birth record or an announcement made at the time |
| Basis for that assessment | The hour comes from the Coyoacán civil birth register: two scholars describe the entry (Ankori gives it as document no. 277, with about 8:30 a.m.; Herrera says the birth certificate gives eight-thirty in the morning). We have not seen a scan of the entry itself. |
| Where the time comes from | The Coyoacán civil registrar's birth entry, no. 277, records Magdalena Frida Carmen Kahlo as born on 6 July 1907 at about 8:30 a.m., as described by art historian Gannit Ankori (2002). Hayden Herrera (1991) gives the same hour, citing the birth certificate. Her 1983 biography and later biographies repeat 8:30 a.m. |

Mars backing up through Capricorn, beyond the Sun's limit
Mars, at 13°23′ Capricorn in its exaltation sign, was backing up 18 arc-minutes a day, and its declination of 27°59′ south outruns the Sun's own maximum of 23°27′ by 4°32′. Followers of Kt Boehrer's declination work read an out-of-bounds planet as acting beyond conventional limits. Uranus is the only other planet moving backward.

Mercury unlinked while the Sun and Mars face off almost exactly
No line in the aspect table touches Mercury, not even to an angle, and none would until the Moon, in Gemini by then, came within orb of a sextile later that morning. It rules Virgo, next to rise, and sits in the 12th house by Placidus, the 1st house by Whole Sign.
The Sun–Mars opposition, 0°01′ wide, is the tightest aspect and holds all day. Neptune joins the Sun within 0°58′ and Uranus joins Mars within 2°46′, stretching four bodies across Cancer and Capricorn. Venus and Pluto, 0°35′ apart in Gemini, both sextile the Ascendant for births from 8:12 AM to 8:49 AM.

Virgo through Sagittarius left empty
The widest gap, 154°16′ from Mercury to Uranus, covers Virgo through Sagittarius, and three open arcs split the planets into the clumps Marc Edmund Jones called a splay. Water and earth tie at four of twelve points, cardinal leads the modes with five, and seven of the ten planets lie between the Midheaven and Ascendant.

A morning day chart with three exalted planets
The Sun had climbed 40°08′ by the registered hour, making it a day chart, where Hellenistic sect doctrine casts Mars as the out-of-favor malefic. The Moon, Mars and Jupiter hold exaltations and top the strength scores, though Jupiter, combust at 7°03′ from the Sun, carries a debility in William Lilly's scoring.

Meryl Streep and Charles III each match two of Kahlo's signs
Meryl Streep's page comes nearest, sharing the Sun and Moon signs. Charles III shares the Taurus Moon and Leo rising, Margot Robbie the Cancer Sun plus a Jupiter less than a degree from Kahlo's, and Harrison Ford the Sun alone. No other page has her birth date.
Lahiri moves the Sun into Gemini
Lahiri's 22°33′ ayanamsa puts the Sun at 20°48′ Gemini. The Moon, at 7°09′ Taurus, holds that sign all day, Vrishabha at any hour and exalted in Jyotish too; Mars and Jupiter lose their exaltations in Sagittarius and Gemini. The lagna, Simha at 0°57′ Leo, becomes Karka (Cancer) with a birth 5 minutes earlier.

Saturn and Jupiter back on their 1907 degrees before July 1954
Saturn returned to its natal degree once, on April 3, 1937 (age 29.7). Jupiter's first return, on June 20, 1919, was a single crossing; the next two, from November 1, 1930, and September 16, 1942, took three passes each, one retrograde, and a fourth came only after her death.

Questions about Frida Kahlo’s birth chart
What is Frida Kahlo's zodiac sign?
Cancer. The Sun, at 13°22′, stayed in Cancer through every hour of July 6, 1907, so the birth time cannot change it.
What is Frida Kahlo's Moon sign?
Taurus, at 29°42′ for the registered 8:30 AM. It reached Gemini at 9:04 AM, so a Gemini Moon needs a birth more than 34 minutes after the recorded hour.
What is Frida Kahlo's rising sign?
Leo. The registered 8:30 AM falls 1 hour 44 minutes after Leo began rising and 28 minutes before Virgo took over at 8:58 AM, so a late error is the real risk.
What stands out in Frida Kahlo's birth chart?
Saturn's near-standstill ranks first, and no birth hour changes it: its daily gain was 20 arc-seconds, with the retrograde turn three days or less away, as in about one chart in 14 born in the 1900s.
What is Frida Kahlo's chart ruler?
The Sun, Leo's ruler in both modern and traditional astrology, in the 11th house beside Neptune and opposite retrograde Mars. After 8:58 AM, Virgo would rise and Mercury would rule.
How the Coyoacán chart was cast and the rates counted
The chart is cast for 19°21′ N, 99°09′ W, old Coyoacán's center, from precise astronomical calculations with Placidus houses. Each rate sets a feature against simulated 1900s births spread over all hours and cities weighted by size; attributed readings report a tradition, not a claim about Kahlo.
| House system | Placidus (Whole Sign shown beside it) |
|---|---|
| Zodiac | Tropical; the sidereal table uses the Lahiri ayanamsa |
| Positions | Precise astronomical calculations for the time used, shown truncated to the arc-minute; the time itself is the larger uncertainty (see the top of the page) |
| Lunar node | True node |
