What is Astrocartography?

Where should I live? It's not a new question. But Jim Lewis gave it a genuinely new answer in 1978 when he figured out how to project a birth chart onto a world map. The result looked like a globe wrapped in colored thread — each thread a planet, each intersection a place where that planet's energy peaks.

We calculate where each planet was angular at the exact moment of your birth. "Angular" means the planet was rising, setting, culminating, or at its lowest point — the four most powerful positions in any horoscope. Those geographic locations become your lines.

Move to your Sun MC line and you become visible. Your Venus DSC, and relationships find you. Your Saturn IC, and you learn what home really costs. The math is spherical astronomy — rigorous celestial calculations, the same engine professional astrologers use. The interpretation is ours.

“Astrocartography answers the oldest question in astrology — notwhen, but where.”

How to Read Your Map

1
Find your lines. Each colored line represents one planet at one angle. Vertical lines are MC/IC. Curved lines are ASC/DSC.
2
Check what's near you.Which lines pass within 500km of where you live, work, or travel regularly?
3
Read the interpretation.Click any line to see what that planet activates at that angle.
4
Look for crossings.Where two lines intersect means doubly activated. These are power spots.
5
Hover for detail.Move your cursor to any location to see the exact relocated Ascendant and Midheaven.

The Four Angles

Every planet creates four lines — one for each angle.

AngleWhat It MeansWhat You'll FeelLine Shape
MCWhere you're seen — your public faceCareer acceleration, public recognitionVertical (straight)
ICWhere you belong — your private rootsDeep comfort, roots, family pullVertical (straight)
ASCWhere you become — your self-imageIdentity shift, new self-expressionCurved (bell-shaped)
DSCWhere you connect — your partnershipsRelationships activate, people find youCurved (bell-shaped)

Orb of Influence

A line's influence doesn't stop at a sharp edge — it fades gradually like a radio signal.

0 – 250 kmVery Strong — this is ground zero
250 – 500 kmStrong — clearly felt in daily life
500 – 800 kmModerate — noticeable background influence
800 – 1,100 kmFaint — subtle coloring, not dominant
> 1,100 kmNegligible

Frequently Asked Questions

How accurate is this?
As accurate as your birth time. We use the same high-precision engine as professional astrology software — the math is spherical astronomy derived from NASA JPL planetary data, not guesswork. This level of computational accuracy is the standard in professional astrology for a reason.
Do I need an exact birth time?
Yes. A 15-minute error shifts your ASC/DSC lines roughly 200 miles. If your time is approximate, focus on MC/IC lines — they're less time-sensitive. Treat your ASC/DSC lines as guides, not guarantees.
What if no lines pass near me?
That's normal. Most people don't live on a major line. Check your parans (toggle them in Controls) and look at where your lines DO fall — your map may be suggesting that your most activated locations are places you haven't visited yet.
Should I move to my Jupiter line?
Maybe. Jupiter lines bring genuine opportunity and expansion — but also excess, overconfidence, and weight gain. It depends on what you need right now. A Saturn line might actually serve you better if you need discipline and structure.
What about online/remote work?
Your physical location still matters. Astrocartography maps geographic influence on your chart — the people, climate, culture, and energy of a place affect you regardless of where your clients are.
How is this different from a relocated chart?
A relocated chart is a snapshot — your chart recast for one specific city. Astrocartography is the whole map at once. We give you both: the map shows all lines, and hovering any location shows the exact relocated ASC and MC.
