The concept is elegant: starting at birth, each year of life is assigned to the next house in sequence. Age 0 = 1st house. Age 1 = 2nd house. Continue through all 12 houses, then start over at 12 (1st house again), 13 (2nd), and so on. The house activated for your current age reveals the life area in primary focus this year. The planet that rules the sign on that house cusp becomes your Time Lord — the planet most influential in shaping the year's events.

Frequently Asked Questions
At what age do profections repeat?
Profections cycle every 12 years. Ages 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60, 72, 84 are all 1st house profection years (new cycle beginnings). Ages 1, 13, 25, 37, 49 are all 2nd house years. This makes profections especially useful for comparing similar periods in your life — what happened at age 24 will rhyme thematically with what happened at age 36, since both are 1st house years.
Should I use whole sign or Placidus houses?
Annual profections was originally developed using whole sign houses — the house system used in Hellenistic astrology. Most traditional astrologers recommend using whole sign houses for profections for maximum accuracy and simplicity. TropicalAstro uses whole sign houses by default for this reason.
How does the Time Lord interact with transits?
The Time Lord is the planet to watch for the entire year. Transits to and from your natal Time Lord are especially significant during its profection year. For example, if Mars is your Time Lord and transiting Saturn squares your natal Mars, that transit will likely be more impactful than it would be in a non-Mars year.
