The IC Line in Astrocartography

Also called the Imum Coeli line.

The IC — the Imum Coeli, the lowest point of your chart — is your foundation: home, family, roots, the private self nobody at work ever meets. An IC line is where a planet sinks to that base at the moment of your birth, colouring everything about where and how you feel you belong. It is the quietest angle on the map, and the most underrated.

The IC line rarely makes you famous or rich, and that is exactly the point. It works on the parts of life that do not show up on a résumé: rest, family, the feeling of a place being yours. A Moon IC line can feel like coming home to somewhere you have never lived; a Saturn IC line teaches what stability costs; a Jupiter IC line makes home spacious. If you are looking for where to put down roots rather than where to be seen, read the IC lines.

On the map

IC lines run vertically down the map, directly opposite the MC lines on the far side of the world. Like the MC, they are less birth-time-sensitive than the curved ASC/DSC lines — an approximate birth time shifts them sideways but keeps them reliable.

Is a strong IC line good?

The line to move toward for belonging — not ambition

A strong IC line is the right move when you need roots: family, healing, a home base. The planet sets the tone — Moon IC for the deepest belonging, Venus IC for a beautiful home, Jupiter IC for a generous one, Sun IC for a true homecoming. Saturn IC builds stability but can feel cold, and Pluto IC surfaces family patterns you may not be ready for.

IC Line — FAQ

What is the IC line in astrocartography?
The IC (Imum Coeli) line marks where a planet was at the lowest point of the sky when you were born. Living near it brings that planet into your home, family, roots, and private life.
Is the IC line good to live on?
For home and family life, often yes — especially the Moon, Venus, or Jupiter IC lines, which deepen belonging, beauty, and abundance at home. It is a line for roots rather than career, so ambition can quiet down there.
What does the IC line affect?
Your sense of home and belonging, family relationships, your private inner life, and the feeling of being rooted (or unsettled) in a place. It is the most domestic angle on the map.
